Radio related books I've read and can recommend.

War Diaries: A Radio Amateur in Kyiv

Nov 2022 Volodymyr Gurtovy US7IGN

The first of two books so far (May 2025) starting on the day of the invasion (24 Feb 2022) up to 29 Sep 2022. It's his diary published in book form.

He and his family fled Eastern Ukraine after the 2014 invasion. His family then fled to Poland after the 2022 invasion. He remained in Ukraine due to Ukrainian law. He likes to build equipment and fix all kinds of radios and electronics. He is active on the air. Perhaps 5% to 10% of the book is about his radio activities. The rest gives an interesting insight into life in Ukraine during the war and the obstacles people have to overcome.

RSGB bookshop: Only paperback available.

War Diaries: Stalemate

The second of two books so far (May 2025). This book continues from where the first one left off, covering from 1 Oct 2022 up 30 Dec 2023. It's his diary published in book form.

As with the first book, this covers his struggles and successes in life and with ham radio.

Amazon: Paperback, hardcover and Kindle.

The CW Way of Life

Chris Rutkowski NW6V

Part of my continued and unintended descent into the rabbit hole that is CW! The book covers a lot of topics in CW - history, theory, keys, ergonomics, code talking, the code, etc. The first few chapters can just be read. I have. But after that it gets into the work needed to learn CW properly. I think it's worth buying. It will be interesting to see if and how much it helps my CW.
